One of the example of city’s colonial heritage is Coliseum Cafè which has been established in 1921. Obviously, based on the year it was established, it undeniable that it one of the oldest in the city.
This cafe is also a best example of how West and East embraced each other’s culture in producing a unique Western Hainanese cuisine.
Coliseum Cafè will surely bring you to the colonial year as you walk inside. It has a typical colonial grill room, preserving many of its original wood interior and trimmings.
Cafè’s signature dishes includes, Oxtail Soup, Baked Crab, sizzling steaks (with 4 choices of sauce), Hainanese chicken chop, chicken Maryland, Hainanese Meehon, Mamak Mee, Fried rice and fried sambal rice. As for the dessert, you can choose from range of sweet treat: banana fritters, fried ice cream, crème caramel and Hainanese coffee.

Since the world before is not yet modernized like today’s, one of the past time and form of entertainment of our ancestors is going to a theater place to catch up some musical portrations. Here in Malaysia, one of the oldest and iconic building that used to be a theater hall during colonial times is Pandang Bandaraya.

If you are born to have a sweet tooth, I’m sure that you are very familiar with this shop of sweet treats here in KL – Jai Hind. This shop has been running for about 60 years now and is continuously in serving delightful sweets! This might be your parent’s go-to sweet shop whenever you ask for something sweet to eat. Or this might be yourself favourite shop in buying something for you kids who also have sweet tooth like yours.
Their must try sweets include: gulab jamun, laddu, burfi and jalebi.

Yut kee has been a favourite eating spot especially among working adults. It has been first opened at Dang Wangi but later closed. Fortunately Yut Kee has reopened at Jalan Kamunting where they continue to serve delectable dishes for their valued customers. The must eat meals here include: Hainanese pork chop, roti babi, roasted pork roll, fried, tofu, french toast and even, desserts. Aside from the mentioned delights, Yut Kee’s traditional coffee is also worth a try!

With today’s sprouting tall malls and shopping centres, have you ever asked yourself about the first ever shopping centre built in Malaysia?
In 1973, Ampang Park is the first shopping centre to be built in Malaysia. It is also the first mall that in the country that has an escalator.
